THE Best5
The José Eber Curling Iron is the BEST I have ever used. I have that flat stick straight Asian hair that DOES NOT curl. Ever. But the stylist proved me wrong and the curls held through brushing AND a night of sleep and rebrushing. They went from Shirley Temple-like ringlets to really pretty loose curls. Everyone was throwing compliments around and I just HAD to go out and grab one for myself.

Works Great!5
Great curling iron!. I have straight, straight waist length hair, this iron curls my hair and it stays for 2 days. I don’t use it all the time as I am concerned about the affects of heat on my hair (It has only one heat setting), and you have to be careful the first few times you use it or you will burn yourself…I have scars to prove it. It comes with one heat resistant glove to wear on the hand your use to wrap the hair around the shaft…..you have to hold the hair in place a couple of seconds, all the way to the tip of the iron in order to have even curls. I find the glove awkward to use. I bought a friend one for her birthday and she loves it tooo!

awesome curling iron-4
I first seen this curling iron at the mall for $169! I thought it was neat but couldn’t afford paying that much. To my delight I found it on Amazon for $37. Sweet. My daughter and I have super fine hair and anytime we curl our hair the curls fall out within minutes. Not with this curling iron… the curls stay all day. There are different ways you can use this to create different looks and it takes a bit of getting used to not having the clamp thingy but this is for sure a great tool!

Since Miller helped write the screenplay and one of his sons produced or coproduced the movie, it shouldn’t be a shock that the movie is so faithful to the current text where it needs to be and broadens the sage where it needs to, as well. Miller knows how to write for the stage, and he apparently knows how to write for the veil, also. After seeing so many “classic” books and/or plays butchered by Hollywood, this movie is a trusty delight, despite its morbid and all-too-realistic fable. This movie has become an significant to my Grade 11 American Literature classes, spectacularly complementing their reading of Miller’s play and several pieces from the Salem Witch Trial era.

Ignoring the play’s historic flaws and inaccuracies (that’s another debate for another time), Miller brilliantly captured the essence of the Salem Witch Trials in his play and has conveyed them to the veil. Hatred, horror, jealousy, hypocrisy, religious mania, attention-seeking, conviction, strength, determination, repentance, and a host of other emotions and character traits are vividly brought to life by a well-behaved cast: Daniel Day-Lewis is a spacious John Proctor (nobody else could have done better), Winona Ryder is very edifying as the conniving and bitter Abigail Williams, Joan Allen was nominated for an Oscar for her portrayal of Elizabeth Proctor, and Paul Scofield should have won an Oscar for his cold-hearted portrayal of Justice Danforth. The conflict between Proctor and Danforth is what sustains the play’s momentum for the second and third acts (about the last hour and fifteen minutes of the movie), and Lewis and Scofield bring that legend conflict to life: the classic reliable v. corrupt, with the sides getting somewhat mixed up as to who is who. . . . Lewis plays the flawed hero to Scofield’s self-righteous and vindictive villain with palpable energy. How Scofield’s performance was overlooked by the Academy is fair another example of their oblivion. He gives me the willies with his methodical, calculating delivery of Miller’s chilling dialogue: “Who weeps for these weeps for corruption” (among a bunch of titanic lines from the play/movie) .

This isn’t simply a play enacted in front of movie cameras (like Death of a Salesman) . The director uses his camera very effectively, capturing some tremendous close-up moments, modern perspectives and camera angles, and bringing a sense of “bigness” to the whole memoir. The play can seem very isolated, with its sparse sets and black-and-white costumes. Miller also expands the movie to originate well before the play does (giving the movie-goer information that he must have assumed the play-reader would already have) and extending it beyond the conviction of Proctor to include his execution, along with that of Rebecca Nurse and Martha Corey. Objective as a side impress, each of those three was hanged in a separate group in the recent trials–great symbolism from Miller, including each larger novel group of victims in the final trio. Also vast symbolism in Proctor’s Christ-like physical placement in the middle of the two “sinners,” as he takes their sins upon him–the crucifixion is represented very effectively.

Bottom line: You won’t stare a better adaptation of a play to movie anytime soon. Nothing principal is left out, and some nice details are brought in to give the movie a distinction from its novel source, the play. If you can do it through this play and not be outraged by the injustice and hypocrisy, then you have a heart as chilly as Danforth’s. What Miller would likely want you to do is apply that outrage to similar situations that go on every day, fair as he intended with his unique play (the McCarthy hearings, the “Red” Terror) . At least peer the movie, though.

If you can inspect this film and not go through every emotion you acquire, then you need to check yourself for a pulse.

Of course, I’m being a bit amusing with my opening to this review, but the reality is that this is a film that will touch you on every imaginable level if you can secure past the era in which the sage takes site and the hysteria of that time period. Rehashing the position is a extinguish at this point as almost every student in America has read this play in their 11th grade English class, but this legend is as relevant today as the day it was written and the time in which the account takes region.

Arthur Miller wrote this yarn as an indictment against McCarthism and although that time has past we unexcited have similar witch hunts today and, sadly, always will. 1970’s had us pointing fingers, thanks to Anita Bryant, anyone we concept might be a closet homosexual. The 1980’s had us pointing fingers at anyone who had more wealth than we did (grand like in “The Crucible”) . The 1990’s had us pointing fingers at family members based on so-called “recovered memories” of sexual abuse (later proven to psychological hogwash, but a clever plot to rep serve at and smear the name of a family member we didn’t like) . And this century has us pointing fingers at anyone Middle Eastern as a terrorist. I grasp immediately after 9/11 our leading law enforcement official, John Ashcroft, going on national television and warning us to be on the examine out for “those that don’t belong.” To me, that was government sanctioned racism at its worst. I was damage by 9/11, but I was harm even more by that reaction to it. This cuts to the heart of Miller’s myth wherein anyone can point a finger at anyone and demolish a life, a family, a community for personal bag and that score can be financial, emotional, political, or whatever. As long as we have people that are motivated by loathe, horror, and power, this anecdote will remain timeless and will never be irrelevant.

As far as the performances go, I can’t judge of finer acting off the top of my head than those in this film and most especially by Daniel Day-Lewis whose final lines will crawl your very soul and Joan Allen who can play some one so chilly with such depth of feeling. Like Lewis, her final scenes are unforgettable. You simply can’t plod away from this film the same person you were before you saw it. It is truly that interesting. All the supporting cast members are familiar faces and all do an outstanding job, especially Winona Ryder in what is probably the best performance of her young career.

her character’s obsessive and selfish desire to have the one man she can’t sets the ball in motion in this chronicle and she, sadly, has no right regrets. She is conflicted in intellectual that her actions are basically putrid, but that they are quiet somehow justifiable. Ryder truly captures the soul, or lack thereof, of this character. She is wonderful here.

The screenplay is adapted by Miller who wrote the play itself and makes the shift from play to veil seamlessly. The direction is confident and appropriately claustrophobic. He allows his actors do their thing without heavy handed influence. The accumulate is terrific and stirring, and the cinematography has almost a documentary feel to it.

Rent or catch this fresh masterpiece; it is trustworthy of your attention.

One last designate. So many know this anecdote, but, surprisingly, few seem to adequately understand it’s title. I belief the below might be helpful:

The American Heritage Dictionary defines “crucible” as:

1. A severe test, as of patience or belief; a trial.

2. A spot, time, or region characterized by the confluence of much incandescent, social, economic, or political forces.

Originally copyright by 20th Century Fox Film Corporation, in 1951, only six years after the slay of World War Two, this shadowy and white film gives a shallow overview of the last years of German Field Marshal Erwin Rommel: the Desert Fox.

Once you acquire past the opening rather stagey scenes, of British commandos raiding a German headquarters building in north Africa, hoping to ruin the Desert Fox in his lair, the rest of the film is carried along guite well, by the astronomical performance of James Mason, as Rommel. This performance is the only reason I rated this film as four stars, without Mason I would have been disapointed.

Other members of the cast do lovely jobs too, notably Cedric Hardwicke and Leo G. Carroll. One can derive fine entertainment based on steady events.

D-Day: the invasion of Normandy, is a highlight of this film. There are several minutes of what appears to be valid newsreel footage of the storming of the beaches: the ships off shore, the guns, the planes, doughty men falling. It’s all very exact at this point.

“The Desert Fox” was made in an era when the directors, producers, and the Hollywood Establishment in general, were less preachy, and less likely to distort the truth in order to promote a social agenda. That is a expansive plus for this film.

On the down side: the film starts off with several undisclosed advertisements for other videos, of like kind, by Fox. This is borderline dishonest, as consumers have paid for entertainment and inquire it to be commercial free. At the very least, the ads should be disclosed, before anyone makes a purchaseing decision.

All in all, “The Desert Fox” is estimable entertainment and deserves a inspect.

I recently saw an come review copy of the DVD “The Desert Fox” and I was surprised at the nice quality of the transfer of what is an exceptional movie. Based on the exploits of the notorious German general Erwin Rommel the DVD has a crisp elegant transfer. Included on this disc is the fresh theatrical trailer which remarkably, considering it’s age, is also reproduced here in relatively reliable condition.

BSA Contender 4-16×40 scope4
First the pluses. I shoot small, close targets and it adjusts well for parallax. The clarity is good.
On the minus side. The adjustment knobs are not easy to use. If you want to use short rings there is a protusion on the bottom that will hit the rail unless you modify it.
All in all for my purposes I’m quit pleased.

The History Channel’s “Dogfights” series is a broad step forward for air combat documentaries. Rarely can gun camera footage assume what actually happened in a dogfight. Instead you honest survey the final couple seconds before the target explodes. The “Dogfights” episodes overcome this limitation by adding in computer-generated reenactments of the air battles that get you feel like you are there watching it all unfold moral in front of you. You arrive away with a powerful better appreciation of the tactics. For archival footage fans, don’t worry–there is smooth plenty of that in these programs. But because they also have the smart computer imagery, the episodes don’t have to rely on showing the same stock footage over and over and over. I especially appreciated this for the jet era battles, where there is generally a short supply of kindly footage. In particular, I plan the “Mig Alley” episode was a colossal improvement over previous pre-CGI documentaries about the air war in Korea. And in that episode, the reenactment of Robby Risner’s chronicle mission is the most astounding air battle fable I have ever seen.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Dogfights – The Complete Season One! Click Here

The whole series is improbable. It is absolutely well-known viewing for anyone fervent in air combat. That said, let me also offer three minor warnings:

1. Air battles in Europe during World War 2 rep surprisingly cramped coverage in Season 1–only a episode of “Greatest Air Battles” bonus episode and a flashback in the “Air Ambush” episode about Robin Olds. Likewise, World War I air combat is not covered except at the beginning of the “Greatest Air Battles” episode.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Dogfights – The Complete Season One! Click Here

2. There is a glitch on the “Greatest Air Battles” episode. When I hit ‘play all’ or ‘introduction’ for that episode, it starts with Rickenbacker’s mission. It seems like the logical starting point, but that isn’t actually the inaugurate of the episode. There is a lot of inspiring material before that, but you have to manually rewind in order to secure the actual beginning of the episode.

3. When last I checked, you could accumulate “Dogfights” for worthy less money from Deep Discount.

Finally, if you want to learn more about the dogfights of World War 2, I strongly recommend VICTORY ROLL by William Wolf. This massive book (460+ pages with over 600 photos) is the most comprehensive history of all the US aces from World War 2 that I have ever encountered.

I cherish this demonstrate but I talked with one of the guys who made the series and he said that (except for the pilot) the series was recorded in high definition widescreen format, so the fact that it’s only been released in 4×3 widescreen format (i.e. shadowy bars at the top, bottom and sides when viewed on a widescreen TV) is a enormous letdown for me. I’ll wait and hope that it gets re-released now that The History Channel knows what a favorite reveal they have on their hands. If not there’s always the hope that they’ll accept their act together for series 2.

I desperately want to occupy this series, but there’s absolutely no plan that I’ll select it unless it’s at least in anamorphic widescreen. In a year and a half no TV exhibit is going to broadcast in shameful definition anymore so the abominable quality of non-anamorphic transfers is going to be very apparent to everyone.

Let me set aside it very bluntly – any widescreen indicate made in the last year that’s attach on DVD in non-anamorphic format is an outright swindle. The folks at The History Channel should know better than to back their customers so shabbily.

[Edit]

Having now seen episodes from the second season in high definition on History Channel HD I can say that the dissimilarity in quality is Gargantuan. This series should have the anamorphic treatment it deserves. As it is, in non-anamorphic letterboxed format, viewers are seeing only half the definition of an anamorphic transfer, and that’s only about half the definition of a HD transfer. Anamorphic would be acceptable, non-anamorphic is definitely not. I unbiased hope History Channel HD starts showing the first season in high definition, so that at least we’ll inspect the episodes in their new format.

Big lens with a big zoom.5
There are many positive features about this lens and there are a few negative this too. I have used this lens on Canon and Nikon cameras, it can be adapted to any mount with the correct t-adapter.

-This lens produces very sharp pictures only if you have your camera on a tripod. With all lenses, the more zoom, the less area of view. Do not think you will be holding this lens in your hands shooting.

-This lens needs light. It works great outdoors. I have taken many shots of birds, houses, trees, ect)

Overall, it is the only lens under $600 that can zoom as far as it can. You just need to understand want it can and cannot do. I am happy with it.

Powerful zoom but low quality images1
This is a very powerful zoom and compared to other zooms of this size it is very cheap, so perhaps unsurprisingly the quality of the photos are very low. I found that the clarity of an image when used for Nature or Sports photography was totally unusable professionally.

The Cons outweigh the Pros1
I admit that I was skeptical that I could purchase a quality lens – with these specs, at such a low price.

My skepticism turned to fact the very first time I used it. On the plus side: the lens looks good, handles well, appears to be well constructed, and is light weight (an added plus).

On the other side of the coin it is quite possibly the worst lens I have ever touched. All of the good comments in the first paragraph are very real – and honest. But the bottom line is that on a lens – “quality counts”.

Sadly, this lens just does not produce quality shots. I’m returning it of course, but I guess I have to look for something that can produce a “keeper” photograph – for a reasonable price. In that regard I know I will have to spend considerably more money. The old saying that you get what you pay for turned out be all too true with this lens.

I just notified the seller that I will be returning the lens. So, in all fairness to them, I cannot comment on their service. I have dealt with them in the past however, and have thus far been very pleased with their professionalism.

Leica 16-18-21mm f/4.0 M-Tri-Elmar 35mm Wide Angle Lens with Universal Finder 11642 Description:

With its impressive angle of view of 107 degrees, this new Tri-Elmar conquers 16mm super wide-angle photography in perfect Leica M style. Due to the minimal distortion and barely perceptible field curvature, it can be recommended for highly demanding architecture photography even at the 16 mm setting. Used on the digital M8, it produces the image effect of a 21 – 28 mm lens, still enabling extreme wide-angle views. The ultra compact shape is achieved by two aspherical elements. A new design of the interior focusing significantly enhances the quality in the close-focus range through an adaption of the floating element principle. Brilliant field depth can therefore be used from a distance of 0.33 m for hyperfocal photography.

  • Amazon Sales Rank: #174771 in Camera & Photo
  • Brand: Leica
  • Model: 11642
  • Dimensions: 1.75 pounds

Features

  • Includes “6-bit code” which allows the digital M8 camera to identify which lens is being used, and also to store this information in image metadata
  • 2 Aspherical lens elements
  • Included in this kit is the Universal Wide-Angle Viewfinder. The viewfinder enables precise cropping of the subject with the Tri-Elmar-M 16-18-21mm f/4 on the M7 and MP as well as the digital M8. For the M8, the focal length extension factor of 1.33x has to be considered, so in this case the bright-line frames for 21, 24 or 28 mm are selected.
  • This lens has been updated with the “6-bit” coding, which allows the digital M camera to read this information optically and to identify which lens is being used. The camera can then (optionally) apply a “final stage” software based vignetting correction (for RAW images the lens used is simply recorded, no change is made).

I have seen a lot of negative reviews here for this movie. I consider this movie is not that dreadful at all. If you have liked “Hasten”, you will probably like “S.W.A.T” too. The actions are large, and so is the photography. The director has primitive his imagination and with the camera he managed to regain some grand shots for the movie. However, I was itsy-bitsy disappointed by the acting of Samuel L. Jackson, and Michelle Rodriguez (actually not expected anything from her, she has an emotionless face), but Colin Farrell, and Olivier Martinez looked stout throughout the movie.

Sometimes, the movie gain unimaginative, but soon picks up with action and keeps the audience on their seat. I agree with one of the reviewer that the movie is more mechanical thriller, but peaceful it’s worth a explore. The DVD I got had all the features, except the eight deleted scenes mentioned here. The sound effects are ample and you will relish this movie if you have a 5.1 home theater system.

I spent my hard earned cash for a matinee fully expecting to gape a sizable, loud, humdrum, mindless and escapist action packed film filled with gun-fights, fist fights, stuff blowing up, mean Euro-trash villains (in this case a precise slimy Gaul), a team made of devoted experts, decent enough acting and a few comical lines as well as a passable performance by the young Mel Gibson-like Colin Farrell and I have to say, my money was well spent.

SWAT has the potential to be the TOP GUN for special police forces. SWAT contains TOP GUN’S romanticized vision of ripped warrior bodies performing ample feats of physical skill. Like TOP GUN’S Navy Pilots and their elegant sonic jets, this shipshape Police force expertly manipulates specific technology to defeat the forces of substandard. A warrior’s complete and total stammer over the tools of the trade- guns, cars, clubs and each other makes such films work as effective recruitment tools. Who wouldn’t want to be fraction of such an expert team?

SWAT embraces all the required clichés befitting a top-notch action/cop picture: the [...]by-the-numbers captain, the hardened ancient (played with the usual strength and charisma by the always first-rate Samuel L. Jackson), the mischievous rebel, the tough female partner, the shapeshifting turncoat and the family man as sacrificial lamb.

If someone wants a decent action-adventure, no thinking required, captivating junk food movie that provides temporary satisfaction, SWAT serves the bill.
