I feel ripped off…I really do. I had all the stale American releases on DVD (which I will be selling to a local merchant because they deal in aged DVDs) to recoup some of the cost I spent on this position. THIS IS NOT THE NETWORK DVD/UK EDITION REMASTERS FOR Spot 1…let’s construct that VERY definite.

If you have a multi-region/format player, go over to Amazon UK and order the First Season from Network…it is *spectacular*. You can also pre-order the Second Season from Network there as well (release date is Sept 10) . The Network DVDs have phenomenal video AND audio, crisp and definite 5.1 audio in fact that gives your sub-woofer a workout. Needless to say, I pre-ordered mine from across the pond the day I got this.
Why 3 stars? Overall fable and series would have gotten a 5. Minus four stars for the remaster rip-off, plus a star for slimmer packaging/better designate, plus a star for *some* improvement in the audio (now 2.0 stereo as opposed to mono) and a bit of an improvement on Season Two eps video.

If you have this…set aside your cash, even though the venerable discs might rob up more shelf-space. If you don’t and only have a standard Set One player, then by all means regain it. If you have a multi region/format player…Hasten to Amazon UK and occupy the Network Season One and Two Versions.
There is no comparison…the Network DVDs are spectacular!

This so-called digitally remastered 30th Anniversary edition is NO DIFFERENT than the older Mega State…honest slimmer packaging. You mild peruse all the spots, smudges, hairs, graininess. The only reason to grasp this is if you have not already gotten the older area and want to keep some money. Dusky, really, that we did not regain the better UK remastered product.

When I first heard about Michael Haneke’s “The Piano Teacher”, about a sexually repressed instructor at the Vienna Conservatory, I concept it was exactly the kind of movie I didn’t want to witness. In a world awash in pop music, South Park and Britney videos, how could a film about the stultifyingly uptight classical music world have *any* relevance for a post-modern, post-everything film buff (even if he is American? ) Didn’t Bergman tread this ground 40 years ago? Didn’t Bunuel effect savage fun of the hypocrisy of bourgeois sexual respectability in “Belle de Jour” (1966)? Wasn’t Haneke a limited unhurried the times?
Walking – or I should say staggering – out of the theater 2.5 hours later, I was humbled by the scope of Haneke’s and Huppert’s achievement. Rarely have I seen a film both so clear-eyed about sexual psychosis and yet so compassionate as well. Isabelle Huppert, who probably wasn’t nominated for an Oscar only because the film can be so off-putting to some, gives what can only be described as an intense performance. Her clenched face and the darting movements of her eyes squawk more about her character – her inner rage, her self-hatred – than most actors can attain with sheets and sheets of dialouge. That’s the essence of the film, everything is very formally *controlled* – so that when violence, self-inflicted or otherwise, breaks out, it is startling because it emerges from such as civilized veneer.
If the point of the film were to explain the High Culture spiritually deforms those who buy in it (and I don’t judge it does), the film would have minimal interest. High culture has been on the defensive so long, it doesn’t need to be blamed for driving Isabelle Huppert nuts as well. Rather the film gains its strength from watching a seriously damaged human being – damaged in ways only suggested at – gain a protective cocoon around herself that fails to protect her from troublesome feelings and desires. The film is somewhat similar to Neil Jordan’s ample film, “The Butcher Boy” whose protagonist uses an opposite strategy – relentless obedient cheer -to cloak the absolute misery he’s sinking into. In these two films, as well as other unique films like Noe’s “I Stand Alone”, Nyutten’s “L’Humanite”, Haneke’s other modern film “Code: Unknown” and Tim Roth’s “The War Room”, European filmmakers are portraying contemporary Europe as a society rife with cultural and psychological malaise – along with a expansive uncertainty as to ability of others to ameliorate the misery that man hands to his fellow man.

“The Piano Teacher” is critical – famous even – not because Isabelle Huppert is asked to do things on camera few major actresses would willingly agree to. The film gets legal to the sunless heart of our contemporary malaise – our declining faith in the ability of culture – or anything – to ease us out of our despair and mitigate the cruelty we often spy around us. The Piano Teacher shows us a few days in the life of a terrorized woman who is both victim and victimizer. The two women abuse one another physically and verbally. This relationship is long standing and comes to a crisis as the film progresses.
Erika is unable to atomize the bonds that set aside her to her mother. Instead, like a child who has never grown up, she wants to please her mother, but is driven to act out her have fantasies secretly. Her mother appears to be unaware of the deep seated repression that is tantalizing her daughter. What she does peruse is an inflamed, hateful person who lies to her and deceives her frequently.
Erika’s sexual frustration takes the gain of physical and pschological self-hate. She visits porn shops to degrade herself and she mutilates her body to distract her from the intense psychological damage she suffers constantly.

At school her madden takes the produce of verbal abuse to her students who are unable to attain the artistic integrity she demands. What appears to be an inflated sense of her hold importance as an artist masks her frustration at being second-rate. She is not obedient enough to be recognized as an artist in her beget accurate. Her hatred of herself and her inadequacy as an artist prompt her to strike out at students and colleagues alike.
Into her seething cauldron of despair comes a young engineering student, Walter Klemmer, wonderfully played by Benoit Maginel, who wants to spy Schubert with her. At first she refuses him, but pressure by the school to rep him forces her to work with him. The sexual tension between teacher and pupil is immediately apparent and moves forward to a collision some reviewers have likened to a dreadful car accident.
In the extinguish we recognize Erika and her student reduced to the lowest well-liked demoninator as human beings. At first Erika is successful at dominating her young student, but the tables are turned as she becomes dependent on him. Both teacher and student are playing a zero sum game to lose. The final climax and its denoument leave Erika a wounded, broken woman.
The director, Michael Haneke, elicits finely tuned performances by all the players, particularly Huppert, who is ravishing in the title role. Haneke has made this film for adults only. It is gloomy and disturbing from beginning to waste with moments of harm and violence that are as trusty as anything one is likely to leer on the mask.
Huppert as the piano teacher has no redeeming qualities we are able to observe in the short set of time covered by the film. Viewers looking for a fine and friendly entertainment are urged to search elsewhere. Haneke shows us a shadowy side of life and he is unflinching in its portrayal.

Rubber surrounds
This woofer surround material provides optimum cone-edge suspension and absorbs distortions that may travel up the cone edge, adding stronger low-end.
True Four Ohms
All Reference speakers feature two ohm voice coils. Original factory-installed speaker wiring in many cars is 18-22 gauge. This wire, and heating in the voice coil when power is applied, increase the impedance “seen” by the amplifier or head unit. The impedance of Reference Speakers has been adjusted to compensate for this increase and can be safely driven by any head unit.
Edge-driven textile dome tweeter
These are not commonly used w-domes, but fully-edge-driven domes like those found in better home audio speakers. The benefit is increased power handling and reduced distortion at high output levels. This technology also allows for better integration with the mid/woofer.
Crossover network with tweeter adjustment

Testing the Nikon 550 Vs Nikon 440 and Bushnell 450 rangefinders
I have compared the Nikon ProStaff Laser Rangefinder 550 to a Nikon Prostaff 440 and a Bushnell Yardage Pro Sport 450, using all three on the same targets.
Note: I have NOT tried these units on a golf course. All three units are made in China.
The Nikon 550 is a very capable laser range finder, and is very similar in ability to the Nikon 440.
The main differences between the two are the slightly greater range of the 550 model.
Despite the understatement of the advertising, I have ranged out to 706 yards with the Nikon 550, and 545 yards with the Nikon 440.
Dark trees can be ranged up to about 400 yards with the Nikon 550, and 330 yards with the Nikon 440. Deer can be ranged to 300 yards reliably with both. The 550 model has a magnification of 6X and the 440 unit is 8X and I greatly prefer the 8X view of the Nikon 440.
Both have a diopter adjustment which is adequate for my eyeglass correction of +5 diopters with and without my glasses.
I also find the long rubber eyepiece of the 550 unit difficult to use if I change to and from eyeglasses, as I do not like to keep folding the rubber down, and I know from experience that you can fold these type of eyepieces only so many times before the rubber (or vinyl) cracks.
Ranging Performance is:
Dark trees: Nikon 550 400 yards, Nikon 440 330 yards
Telephone poles: Nikon 550 430 yards, Nikon 440 360 yards
Deer: unobstructed medium deer, both 300 yards
Dark shrubs: Nikon 550: 400 yards, Nikon 440 350 yards
Light colored buildings: Nikon 550 535 yards, Nikon 440 453 yards
Very reflective targets, eg trucks, Nikon 550 706 yards, Nikon 440 535 yards
They both acquire targets well and range accurately when compared to other units.
I am biased to wards the Nikon 440 unit, because:
1. it is smaller and handier
2. It has 8X magnification which I really like and use (and need)
2. It is adequate for anything out to 300 yards and often 400 yards
3 It costs about 60 dollars less than the Nikon 550
5. The battery compartment screws down 3 turns and seems better sealed than the 1/4 turn compartment of the Nikon 550
6. The optics are virtually the same on both except for magnification. Both are clear and bright.
7. Generally, the range is perhaps 15 or 20 percent more for the Nikon 550 unit due to the higher laser power (15 watts pulse vs the 8.5 watts pulse of the 440 unit).
Other notes;
The Bushnell Yardage Pro Sport 450 is not anywhere in the same league as the other two, despite the price (I paid 179). The Bushnell will not read beyond 230 yards on any but the most reflective target, despite what the advertising says. The longest range I could measure with it was 330 yards and that on a reflective sign. This unit is supposed to range up to 800 yards (732 meters)! It will range a tree up to 200 yards as claimed, but the best it will do on medium deer is 140 yards. It is a 4 power monocular, and will range down to 6 yards, the others will range as close as 11 yards (10M). This Bushnell is by far the lowest quality of any unit I have seen. Bushnell claims water resistance, but there are various entry points for water, and if the unsealed battery compartment is opened, green circuit board is visible. If the rubber eyepiece protector is removed (all too easily) the optics are exposed and vulnerable. There is absolutely nothing to protect the electronics and optics from water and moisture. That along with very poor ranging capabilities make this Bushnell Yardage Pro Sport 450 nothing more than a child’s toy, albeit an expensive one.

Wow this volume of the second gig series is sweet. There is a ton of action in all the episodes and the CG sequences are better than ever. Furthermore, you also finally come by clued-in on the majors past and who Goda is.

The sound/music of this dvd is astonishing. In these 4 episodes, more so than the last 8, the producers have heavily mixed in some of the best and mostly unheard of, GITS OST music scores- over the action and over the dialogue, making each episode have more of a movie like dawdle.
Also what’s even more impressive is that for the first time, in a long while, you actually procure to peer a fully CG engrossing ghost dive.

Now as for the Tachikoma’s, they are in bulky force in this DVD, however, there jobs are a bit different than usual, they bag to encourage the Share 9 crew ghost dive!, yea and there humor is also intact in this volume as well.
As I said before, very impressive for a continuation of the series, definitely a must see
This volume gets good to the heart of the status, and raises vital questions. Who really is Gohda? Where is the next refugee threat coming from? Who tried to destroy the Prime Minster, and what roll does he play in the Individual Eleven? Is there a terrorist virus causing another stand alone complex? Can Togusa finds his procedure obvious of criminal charges? Also, we all know The Major, but what of her past?

Kenner uses photography and imagery to develop his points, and he interlaces this film with scenes of incredible beauty and graphic cruelty. “Food, Inc.” is not an easy film to look, and it should not be. Kenner uses the final frames to advise some to-do’s for those who want to reply to the film not unbiased in conversation but through action. As trite as it sounds, if you can only peer one movie this year, go to this one. (When the negative review initiate cropping up for this movie, it would be spirited to contemplate how many of those are from food industry insiders and their minions.)
What can be more vital than the food you eat? This is the movie that the American public needs to recognize. This movie deals with issues that each and every one of us faces every day–without even intelligent it. Covering all sorts of food-related issues, from animal cruelty to the agricultural triumph of corn, this movie will leave you more informed than you were before, and will empower you to compose a inequity, at least in your maintain buying habits.

So what do we have here? A laugh out loud screwball comedy from 1952, starring Cary Grant, Marilyn Monroe, Ginger Rogers, and Charles Coburn. It was directed by the legendary Howard Hawks,and has a screenplay by greats Ben Hecht, Charles Lederer and I.A.L. Diamond…And there’s more…20th Century Fox has restored this dim and white comedy and has made a astonishing transfer to DVD, so we may savor all these vast talents more than 50 years later.
The film is a lot of fun, and the stars ogle like they had fun making it. And, you can blame all this fun on “Esther”. Esther is a six month feeble chimp who mixes up a batch of youth serum and dumps it in the water cooler at the lab of the absent minded researcher Dr. Barnaby Fulton(Grant) . When Fulton and wife Edwina(Rogers), gain a noteworthy dose of this formula, it’s anything goes, as they become youthfully exuberant and a bit on the mischievious side(okay, okay, more than a bit) . The more they drink…the younger they act. Fulton’s boss(Coburn) is trying desperatley to market this miracle and secretary Laurel(Monroe), adds to all this fun as only Marilyn can do with her mere presence.And yes…Ginger does a minute hoofing as well!

A amazing restoration makes it all the more exquisite. The stout cover recount(1.33:1/academy ratio) and unlit and white images are interesting and certain. There are a few instances when that rainbow thing is happening, you may peruse it on Cary’s suit or tie, but not often and it no design interferes with the enjoyment of this film. The audio gives you the choice of Stereo or Mono, and there are subtitles in English and Spanish.
You can also understanding a restoration comparasion and there’s a unruffled gallery with unbelievable photos.
What we have here is a 5 star package deal for anyone who loves weak Hollywood, for anyone who loves to laugh, and for anyone who is young…at heart!…savor….Laurie

(!) Classic line: after boss (played by Charles Coburn) sends Marilyn off in search of someone to type a letter, he steals a ogle at her “caboose” and remarks, “Anyone can type.”
This is not to imply that the rest of the production lacked brilliance. MONKEY BUSINESS is a moral screwball comedy of the pre-WWII type that accelerates and spins out of control in ways that the audience cannot anticipate, but will surely devour. Released in 1952 unbiased before Monroe became a full-blown star and TV hijacked the mass audience, the film brims with talent and zesty roles. MONKEY BUSINESS reunites Howard Hawks as director and Cary Grant as male lead for the first time since 1938’s delicious BRINGING UP BABY.
Cary plays a very middle-aged absent-minded professor who is really a bit of a stick–until he’s accidentally dosed with a unusual Ponce de Leon rejuvenation serum and all youth breaks out. Blooming soon he’s got his hair in a buzz slit and driving a unusual roadster so recklessly he scares even the stunning (and fair bold) secretary, the aforementioned by Marilyn Monroe. Things regain even wackier when wife Edwina (Ginger Rogers) accidentally ingests some of the serum, too.
Now, this capable film has plenty of performances alongside Marilyn’s: manic Cary, flabbergasted Ginger Rogers, the everlovin’ monotone of Hugh Marlowe (he of a jillion WWII air-ace movies and the playwright in ALL ABOUT EVE) and as a special treat, George (“Foghorn”) Winslow, the seven-year-old Baby Boomer who blatts out “What’sa matter? Don’cha like children? ” unprejudiced before he ties Marlowe to a tree!
Part of the joy of this movie is watching Grant and Rogers give some of their most uninhibited performances ever as the middle-aged couple who revert to youth–and even before. The timing, direction, and dialog are all impeccable, and of course we have MM into the bargain.
Worth keeping a weather scrutinize out for as well are numerous other Fox black-and-white comedies from the unhurried forties/early fifties, not least among them EVERYBODY DOES IT (1947), in which Celeste Holm plays a mediocre talent who’s convinced she could have hit the immense time with the correct support; and A LETTER TO THREE WIVES (1948), with an all-star cast, including Ann Sothern, Jeanne Crain and Linda Darnell as three of postwar suburbia’s most “desperate housewives.”
